Creation

Every angler is familiar with Rapala's long and storied history. From the original Floating Minnow to the popular DT Series crankbaits and beyond, Rapala has always been atop the industry, providing anglers with the baits they need to succeed.

When Rapala decided to step back into the soft plastics game, these baits needed to stand out from the rest of the industry. The Rapala CrushCity lineup couldn't just be a combination of copy-and-paste of the industry's favorite soft plastic molds but an innovation that performs at the highest level.

To help achieve this innovation, Rapala has collaborated with the one and only Major League Fishing pro Jacob Wheeler. A perennial MLF Bass Pro Tour Champion, Wheeler is no stranger to success. He knows what it takes to win, and part of that success translates back into knowing what he needs in a bait to excel. This collaboration between Rapala and Wheeler provides what Wheelers says is "the soft baits I need to win tournaments," as seen in his multiple winning and top finishes utilizing the CrushCity Freeloader.

Smart Injection Technology

The entire CrushCity lineup features Rapala's exclusive manufacturing process, which gives each CrushCity soft plastic a unique blend of scent, color, salt, and flake. This combination is part of the molding process during the production of each soft plastic. These ingredients are part of Rapala's Super TPE or PVC/Plastisol formulas that ensure a consistent mold.

Components such as salt play a valuable role in soft plastics. Smart Injection Technology is more than just impregnating a bait with salt; it precisely places the salt in specific spots of the bait for enhanced action. For example, the Mayor features salt distribution along the underbelly of the bait to increase belly roll for the most tantalizing action. Meanwhile, the Bronco Bug utilizes salt in its meaty legs to significantly enhance the thumping action of its appendages.

Enhancing a bait with the proper scent and subtle details will only strengthen the manipulating properties of each CrushCity bait. The appendages and ribbed bodies add something different to each soft plastic. The tapered and ribbed tail on the Ned BLT quivers with even the slightest action, while the ribbed body of the Freeloader and Mooch Minnow displaces water evenly with each roll. Reverse appendages have been added to the Cleanup Craw, Hedgehog, and Bronco Bug to manipulate the bait's action as they fall in and out of cover. Couple these components with the unique scent injected into each plastic to ensure fish hold on longer, allowing you ample time to react and set the hook.
